Premium Database Overview

PREMIUM BALLISTIC DATABASE — FULL ACCESS

Scientific Waterfowl Ballistics, Built Species by Species

The Premium Ballistic Database provides full access to species-specific ballistic modelling, combining pellet penetration, pattern density, and lethality probability under realistic hunting conditions.

Unlike generic ballistic calculators or marketing-driven charts, this database is built from the anatomy outward:
each species is analysed independently, with its own penetration thresholds, target surface, and ethical limits.

Premium access unlocks the complete data tables supporting the conclusions shown on free pages.

How to interpret these data

The ballistic tables provided in the Premium Database require a clear understanding of how penetration, hit probability, and limiting factors are defined.

What Premium Members Access (Data & Tools)

For every species, material, and load included in the database, members receive:

  • Ethical range tables by pellet size and load
  • Penetration at maximum ethical distance
  • Expected hits per bird under full choke conditions
  • Identified limiting factor (penetration vs pattern density)
  • Ethical lethality framework (≈95%)
  • Clear distinction between maximum possible and maximum ethical range
  • All values expressed in U.S. units (yards, fps, oz)

This data allows hunters to evaluate real-world effectiveness, not theoretical energy alone.

Featured Premium Tool: Weather & Ethical Range

Weather is not a footnote — it can remove up to 10 yards of ethical range without changing your load. This premium page quantifies how temperature, pressure, and ammunition temperature affect maximum ethical distance across real U.S. hunting scenarios:

Shot Materials Included

The database currently models the following non-toxic materials using a unified methodology:

  • Steel — 7.8 g/cm³
  • Bismuth — ≈ 9.5 g/cm³
  • HEVI-Shot (tungsten–iron alloy) — ≈ 12 g/cm³
  • Tungsten Super Shot (TSS 18) — 18.0 g/cm³

Each material is evaluated based on actual ballistic behaviour, not manufacturer claims.

Species Currently Available

Ducks

  • Mallard — full ballistic dataset available
  • Teal — full ballistic dataset available

Geese

Additional species currently in development.

All species are analyzed using the same methodology, allowing direct comparison across materials.

Species Added Progressively

The Premium Database is expanded species by species, following real-world hunting relevance and ballistic significance.

Upcoming additions include:

  • Canada Goose
  • Green-winged Teal
  • Snow Goose
  • White-fronted Goose (Specklebelly)
  • Wigeon
  • Pintail
  • Canvasback

New species are added using the same validated modelling framework, ensuring consistency across the database.

Why Species-Specific Modelling Matters

Waterfowl lethality is not defined by pellet energy alone.

Body mass, anatomy depth, feather density, and target surface vary significantly between species.
A load that is ethical on a mallard may be marginal or unethical on a goose — or excessive on a teal.

Premium access allows hunters to move beyond assumptions and evaluate what actually limits lethality for each species.

What Premium Is — and Is Not

Premium access provides:

  • Data-driven decision support
  • Transparent ballistic limits
  • Ethical range definitions grounded in probability

Premium does not promise:

  • extended-range guarantees,
  • universal “best loads,”
  • or justification for marginal shots.

The database is designed to inform disciplined shooting, not to enable long-range fantasy.
